Sabina by Shashwat Nagpal
Sabina aka Laali, Rajasthan 5/2010

Recently I was shooting in some villages in Rajasthan for a client where I met this lovely kid Sabina. She was shy but a very smart kid. I took a few pictures of her and love this one the most.

After meeting Sabina and few more kids I realised, even today in our villages, formal education is still not taken seriously. Most of the kids choose not to go to school and rather work at home (mostly girls), work with there fathers (mostly boys) or study Quran in local madarsa or mosque. And, even though these villages are within 100 Kms radius of the national capital, girls are still getting married here by the age of 12-14 years and have kids.

Sabina studied in a formal school till fourth standard, and then her family chose for her to study Holy Quran and Urdu language only. I hope and wish she gets a better future.
