This is one of these pictures which really mean a lot to me and also with one of the most efforts I ever made. The place and exactly this picture is in my head for 1,5 years now since I found the location, 500km from home and finally I was in the area to give it a try.
The old theatre is abandoned since many many years, well hidden in france. After it was left to it's final sleep it has been completely bricked up, including all windows which is still hard to understand for me. Who can leave such a beauty rot there alone?!
I walked through the woods and came to the relatively inconspicuous building, it first really looked as there would be no chance but there was, for sure one of the tiniest entrances I ever used, very high as well... I jumped down, darkness surrounds me, first I only saw my breath in the flashlight before the amazing hall appeared. As expected inside it was completely dark, the only very little gap of light comes throug a slit in the old boarded door, only shadowy lightening a few little spots.
I did not want to use flashes or lamps as in my eyes it wouldn't have fit to the amazing atmosphere of the place. So the only used lightsource here are many small candles all over the call I brought with me to give it the right mood. After all lights were set up it was of course still very dark, but exactly like I wanted it.
The exposure times were up to 4 minutes to bring some light into the darkness.
After some hours it was a good feeling to come back into the daylight and I say... good night again!
