A blind elderly resident waits to be dressed after being bathed. Among the many Hindu temples along the sacred Bagmati River in Pashupatinath, Kathmandu, lies an Ashram where a large group of elderly Nepali's live out the rest of their lives. The families of the elderly have brought them here because they are unable to support them financially or they have become a disgrace to the family name because of their condition and/or disabilities. As the resident numbers fluctuate on a regular basis, the senior residents rely on local and international volunteers everyday to help them with daily routines that include bathing, laundry, feeding, and walking. The Nepali Pashupatinath trust has been set up to offer financial support overseeing that basic necessities and facilities are being met, however due to lack of quality control, corruption, and care, the residents continue to be neglected where each day is a continuous struggle.
