Long one of my favorite travel shots. This is the fabulously beautiful Bryce Canyon in Utah, USA from April, 2006.
There's a story behind the composition of this one. I was standing there, chatting with a pro photographer loaded down with a Canon 1Ds/MkIIn, a 70-200L lens, a $1000 tripod, etc, who was busy shooting shot after shot of a single tiny tree way up on the cliffside. Over and over. The same tree. Bitching and moaning the entire time about how passenger jet pilots shouldn't be allowed to fly over national parks because they absolutely ruined the skylines of the landscapes for nature photographers.
I smiled and nodded my head for awhile. As I was listening to his tirade, I was noticing the convergence of these two jet trails as they drifted across the sky and across each other. Finally, when they were in just the right place, and when I was tired of his rant, I said "Excuse me", leaned past him and around all of his gear, and snapped this one hand-held. He didn't say another word to me.
I whistled as I walked away ;)
